The 2022 Secret Door from Sage Ridge Vineyard continues our exploration of the Block 38 - Block 12W - "Coyote Lookout" (the name has been changed) we originally purchased the grapes from beginning in 2017.  This block faces Northeast and was planted about 20 years ago with "Martha's Vineyard Clone" Cabernet Sauvignon vines. The naturally low yields produce wines of depth and power while retaining uplifted aromas and gentle structure. 

What we love about Sage Ridge is the consistent character of the wines from Coyote Lookout Block. There's a distinct bouquet garni  - floral/herbal character that spans every vintage along with deep and powerful blackberry, and mocha notes. While it would love to age for decades it is not a requirement for enjoying this wine. Drink me now if you like young Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Maybe your inheritors will appreciate them at 30-40 years out?

This vineyard is perched high on the hills to the east of St. Helena. It was planted in 1998. There is no current sub-appellation and it carries the “Napa Valley” banner proudly. Sage Ridge Vineyard is actually a series of small plots that run along the ridgelines. It offers a lot of diversity both in soil types and it exposures with plots facing in essentially all directions.

Sage Ridge Vineyard has rapidly become a superstar vineyard source in the eastern hills of the Napa Valley. Under the ownership of Judy Jordan a massive renovation project was begun to both ensure better water management and replant major parts of the vineyard. This rambling vineyard is divided into a many small blocks often with very different clones of Cabernet Sauvignon (Merlot, Cabernet Franc are also planted).
